Each member of our senior management team was an integral part of the success of the former Summit REIT, which, prior to being taken private by ING Real Estate in 2006, grew to be Canada's largest, publically owned landlord and owner of industrial warehousing.
Mr. Maroun began his real estate career in 1982 following seven years with the Nova Scotia Department of the Attorney General. In 1996 Summit Real Estate Investment Trust was launched, and under his tenure as Chief Operating Officer/Chief Executive Officer, it grew to become one of Canada's largest REIT's and the country's largest publicly traded owner and manager of industrial real estate with approximately $3.5 billion in assets. Following Summit REIT's successful privatization by ING Real Estate in 2006, Mr. Maroun became Executive Chairman of ING Real Estate Canada until 2009.
Currently, Mr. Maroun is Chairman of Sigma Capital Corporation and Sigma Real Estate Advisors Limited, an investment advisory firm specializing in the Canadian, United States and Bermuda real estate markets. Sigma advises and co-invests with its Institutional clients. Mr. Maroun is also a board member of Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, a Toronto Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange listed public company and Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners, one of the largest publically owned owner/operators of renewable energy projects. He is, as of February 2013, a board director and audit committee member of Brookfield Property Partners.
In 2006, Mr. Maroun was honored by his election to the position of Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Mr. Dykeman's extensive real estate career began in 1990. In 1998 he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Summit REIT, and was an integral part of Summit REIT's transformation into Canada's third largest REIT and the country's largest industrial landlord with additional holdings in the retail and office real estate sectors with a portfolio valued at over $3 billion. Mr. Dykeman is a member of the Real Property Association of Canada and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia.
Mr. Drake's real estate career began in 1992. In 1995 he joined Summit REIT as Director, Portfolio Analysis responsible for reporting on the Summit REIT's performance. In 2008, Mr. Drake became Senior Vice President, Research & Analysis at ING Real Estate Canada. Mr. Drake is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia with an MBA degree from Dalhousie University.
Mr. Robbins' real estate career began in 1991, and in 1997 he joined Summit REIT becoming the Summit REIT's Vice President of Investments in 1999 responsible for directing all real estate transaction and investment activities, including more than $1.5 billion of acquisitions, dispositions and developments. He was an integral part of Summit's transformation into Canada's third largest REIT and largest industrial landlord. Mr. Robbins is a past member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada.
Ms. Hill joined Summit REIT in 1999 responsible for the property management, leasing and asset management of the Summit REIT's light industrial portfolio across Canada. She brings extensive experience in commercial and industrial real estate to Summit II and is responsible for the overall performance of the property portfolio including tenant relationships, property management and leasing.
